Sri Lanka Captivates 80,000 Travelers In Record-Breaking Start To 2025

Sri Lanka has set an ambitious goal of welcoming 3 million visitors in 2025 and has kicked off the year on a high note, recording nearly 80,000 arrivals in the first 10 days of January.

India and Russia emerged as the top two source markets, contributing 11,749 (16.6%) and 11,629 (16.4%) visitors, respectively, between January 1 and 9.

Other significant contributors included the United Kingdom with 5,520 visitors (7.8%), Germany with 5,049 (7.1%), Australia with 3,055 (4.3%), and France with 2,714 (3.8%), securing third to sixth positions in Sri Lanka’s top arrival markets. Notably, January 2 and January 3 recorded strong daily arrival averages of 9,392 and 8,974, respectively.

Chinese arrivals, traditionally influenced by the Lunar New Year celebrations spent at home with family, ranked seventh. However, the outlook is positive, with increased connectivity expected as Chinese airlines expand their routes to include Sri Lanka.
