Bangladesh Approves Pakistani Airline for Direct Flights Between Karachi and Dhaka

Following a recent agreement between Pakistan and Bangladesh to initiate direct flights, Bangladesh has given approval for Fly Jinnah, a private airline, to start operations. This will mark the return of direct flights between Karachi and Dhaka after nearly ten years.

Fly Jinnah’s request was approved by Bangladesh’s Civil Aviation Authority (CAAB). CAAB Chairman Air Vice Marshal Md Monjur Kabir Bhuiyan confirmed the approval, stating, “They applied, and we granted it.”

Next, Fly Jinnah must appoint a local General Sales Agent (GSA) in Bangladesh. Once that step is complete, the airline will be allocated slots and frequencies for the route.

Prior to this, Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) operated the direct flights on this route until February 2015. Bangladesh’s ambassador to Pakistan, Iqbal Hussain, confirmed that the operation would begin soon following an agreement with Fly Jinnah on January 30.

Relations between Pakistan and Bangladesh have improved recently, particularly after the ousting of former Bangladeshi Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in August 2024.

Bangladesh’s interim leader, Muhammad Yunus, met with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif in December 2024, further solidifying their bilateral relationship.
