Pakistan to Get Another Airline After Cabinet Approval

The Punjab government has given the green light to Air Punjab (Private) Limited, marking a historic move toward the province’s first government-backed airline.

Officials say the airline will be managed by the provincial government and aims to offer affordable and reliable air travel within Punjab and to other major cities across Pakistan.

The decision was finalized during a Punjab cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, where multiple important initiatives were approved. Apart from Air Punjab, the cabinet also approved hiring School Teacher Interns to tackle the shortage of teachers in public schools.

Other key approvals included the Punjab Protection of Ownership of Immovable Property Ordinance 2025, the Chief Minister’s Hi-Tech Farm Mechanization Finance Program, and the introduction of QR codes for retailers as part of the Prime Minister’s Cashless Strategy. The cabinet also sanctioned a Memorandum of Understanding for the Lahore–Rawalpindi High-Speed Rail Project, signaling further progress in provincial transport and infrastructure.

Officials believe Air Punjab will improve connectivity, boost tourism, and provide a more convenient travel option for residents of Punjab, making it a key step in modernizing the province’s transport network.
