India suspends visa services in Chittagong amid Bangladesh unrest

As per an agency report, India’s assistant high commission in Chittagong temporarily ceased operations due to safety concerns for its staff following violent protests near its diplomatic premises.

The official sources show that India has now partially suspended visa services at its mission in Chittagong, signaling growing concern over escalating political unrest in Bangladesh.

As per an agency report, India’s assistant high commission in Chittagong temporarily ceased operations due to safety concerns for its staff following violent protests near its diplomatic premises. In response, New Delhi has also suspended visa services from the city, which is Bangladesh’s second largest.

The decision, announced on Sunday, came after widespread protests erupted following the death of 32-year-old youth leader Sharif Osman Hadi, who was critically injured in Dhaka on December 12 and later died in Singapore.

Thousands took to the streets demanding accountability, and violent demonstrations have been reported in Dhaka and other parts of the country. Amid the unrest, a Hindu garment worker was lynched in Mymensingh district and several major newspaper offices were set on fire.
