Sri Lanka eases visa process for Pakistanis, strengthens bilateral ties

Colombo: Sri Lanka has removed Pakistan from its “negative” visa list, a move aimed at facilitating travel and boosting cooperation between the two nations.

According to Kashmir Media Service, the decision follows a meeting between Sri Lankan President Anura Kumara Dissanayake and Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi.

During their talks, Naqvi raised concerns about visa difficulties faced by Pakistani citizens. President Dissanayake promptly directed authorities to lift visa restrictions, paving the way for easier travel and trade between the countries.

The Sri Lankan president also announced that his country’s prime minister would soon visit Pakistan, underscoring the growing warmth in bilateral relations. Discussions during the meeting focused on cooperation in counter-terrorism, anti-narcotics efforts, and joint training of security forces.

President Dissanayake expressed gratitude for Pakistan’s support during challenging times, citing Islamabad’s agreement to play a T20 World Cup match against India in Colombo as a gesture of goodwill. Naqvi conveyed an invitation from Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif to the Sri Lankan president to visit Pakistan, which was welcomed by Dissanayake.
