Director General of Civil Aviation of the Bhutan Civil Aviation Authority, Kinley Wangchuk, paid a courtesy call on Director General of Civil Aviation and Chief Executive Officer of the Civil Aviation Authority of Sri Lanka, Capt. Daminda Rambukwella, to discuss strengthening cooperation in the aviation sector.
During the meeting, the Bhutanese delegation presented suggestions and proposed operational plans aimed at enhancing international scheduled passenger operations between the two countries. Discussions were also held on expanding aviation training opportunities in Sri Lanka for Bhutanese students.
Sri Lanka’s Director General welcomed the proposals and requested Bhutan to submit a formal proposal to facilitate the formulation of an Air Services Agreement between the two countries to further strengthen cooperation in the air transport sector.
Both sides agreed that any amendments or final decisions would be taken after obtaining guidance from the relevant line ministries, including the Ministry of Ports and Civil Aviation and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The meeting also reviewed the recent challenges faced by the global aviation industry, particularly the decline in air travel caused by the Middle East conflict, while noting that the sector is gradually recovering with renewed efforts to rebuild and expand international operations.
Deputy Director General (Flight Safety Regulation) Capt. Lasantha Dahanayake, Director Air Transport and Economic Regulations Asanga Liyanarachchi, and representatives of the Bhutan Civil Aviation Authority were also present at the discussion.
