Expansion would consider travel demand from Bangladeshis living in Europe, he says

Biman Bangladesh Airlines may increase flights between Dhaka and Rome after adding new aircraft to its fleet, Civil Aviation and Tourism Minister M Rashiduzzaman Millat said today.
The minister made the remarks during a courtesy meeting with Italian Ambassador to Bangladesh Antonio Alessandro at the Secretariat in Dhaka, according to a press release issued by the Ministry of Civil Aviation and Tourism.
Responding to the Italian government’s interest in increasing flights on the route, Millat said plans would be made to expand services after new aircraft are added to Biman’s fleet, considering the travel needs of Bangladeshis living in Europe.
Biman currently operates six weekly flights on the route, according to the ministry.
The meeting also covered potential Italian investment in Bangladesh’s aviation sector, particularly in developing aircraft maintenance, repair and overhaul facilities, as well as ways to strengthen bilateral tourism cooperation, including the possibility of signing a memorandum of understanding.
The development of Cox’s Bazar airport and proposals to improve facilities for foreign tourists were also on the agenda. The two sides discussed setting up special “red zones” for foreign tourists, though the ministry did not provide further details.
Italian Deputy Head of Mission Federico Zamparelli also attended the meeting.
